Whether it’s a grumpy hip, a stiff back, or ankles that complain after a long walk, pain and stiffness are some of the most common reasons why people come to us for the first time. It may be new pain, or something that has been with them for a longer period of time.
1. Staying active is one of the most effective things you can do
It sounds counterintuitive when something hurts but Arthritis UK is clear on this: staying as active as possible can help reduce pain, ease stiffness, and improve energy levels.
A reminder I’d give here is: keep it appropriate. Not always high-impact and not simply pushing through pain. Appropriate movement means doing what works with your body, at the right level, with the right guidance. This is exactly what we build every session at Shape It Up Pilates, and it’s why so many of our members tell us they feel looser after class, even when they came in feeling stiff.
2. Finding movement you enjoy is what makes it stick
Find what you enjoy, and it’ll feel so much easier to stay consistent!
A class you actually look forward to is worth ten sessions you drag yourself to. It’s always wonderful to hear our members come back week after week not just because it’s good for them, but because they genuinely enjoy the community, the teachers, and the variety.
3. Expert guidance changes everything
Moving with pain or stiffness without proper support is where things can get worse. Having someone in the room who knows your body, your history, and exactly what’s right for you on any given day makes all the difference.
If you’re unsure what the best option is for you, get in touch and I’d be happy to help you find a good solution for where you are currently, and where you’d like to be.
