Recently when I was looking for more information on what to do with my own menopausal symptoms of heavy periods, painful joints and interruption to my sleep, I searched high and low and the only resolution was to take Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). I reached out to Sundeep Watkins a Women’s Health Physiotherapist to get her opinion, and to answer my questions.
HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (HRT)
HRT is offered to women to help relieve the symptoms of menopause. It can be taken orally, through skin patches and vaginal creams (to name a few). I know women who swear by HRT to get over the varying symptoms of menopause, including mood swings and hot flushes, and I also know women who self-manage their symptoms. But I wanted to get more answers, as we deserve to know what we are putting in our body, right??
CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS
Before deciding to take HRT, I would recommend reading, reading and more reading to make sure you are making the right choice for you!
There is no right or wrong way to manage your menopause: some use exercise and a healthy diet, and some use HRT – as long as you are prioritising your needs, you are doing it right! Ignoring your symptoms is the only way you can go wrong.
SO, WHAT DID A WOMEN’S HEALTH EXPERT SAY?
I had a great chat to Sundeep about HRT and the menopause, give our chat a listen here. We chat about how HRT can help your pelvic floor, how it can help your symptoms and the importance of knowing whether HRT suits you or not. This will all help you to make an educated decision.
Overall, we suggest going straight to an expert (Dr Louise Newson from Newson Health Clinic is referred to in our conversation) – we are always here to answer your questions, so never hesitate to get in contact!
